We chose Campaigner as the best email marketing software for larger businesses because it offers customizable features, automated workflows and social media integrations to help businesses scale their email marketing services at an affordable cost.
Thumbs Up Pros
  • Campaigner offers numerous customizable features to support email automation, personalization, experimentation and reporting, including autoresponders, segmentation, subject line testing and more.
  • With built-in marketing automation, Campaigner helps you manage which emails are sent to specific groups and when so you can focus on other aspects of running your business.
  • Campaigner integrates social media feeds with email to enable a multichannel marketing strategy that enhances engagement.
Thumbs Down Cons
  • Although Campaigner offers a 30-day free trial, you must provide a credit card upfront. Your card isn't charged unless you choose a plan after the trial period, but many other email marketing solutions we reviewed offer free trials without requiring a credit card.
  • Unlike some email marketing solutions, Campaigner doesn't offer a free version.
  • Campaigner can be expensive for small businesses on limited budgets.

Why We Chose Campaigner as Best for Larger Businesses

Campaigner’s robust, customizable features — such as autoresponders and automation workflows — make it ideal for larger businesses that need to tailor their email outreach to prospects and customers. Companies with extensive contact lists and limited time may struggle to personalize email messaging for different recipient segments. Campaigner simplifies this process by helping businesses set up automated, personalized messages and triggers for essential communications. These include welcome emails, reminders for important dates (such as birthdays and anniversaries), and emails based on key actions, like making a purchase, requesting information or signing up for a program.

We were impressed by Campaigner’s social media integration. This functionality allows businesses to connect their social media feeds to their emails, thereby creating a multichannel digital marketing strategy that boosts engagement across the board. Because larger businesses often have a substantial social media presence, these integrations can help grow email lists and social media followers.

We appreciated Campaigner’s unique partner programs, which are designed to help resellers, agencies and affiliates take control of their customer journeys and expand their reach. Larger businesses in these industries can leverage Campaigner’s white-label platform to customize their brand experience and gain real-time customer insights for more effective campaigns. We also like that you can earn a commission in exchange for referrals through Campaigner’s affiliate program.

Bottom LineBottom line
Campaigner stands out as a tool that helps larger businesses automate repetitive tasks while delivering a personalized customer experience. Providing a great customer experience is crucial for brand loyalty and reinforces a business's commitment to customer satisfaction.

Ease of Use

We found Campaigner easy to use and implement. Its drag-and-drop editor offers hundreds of templates to customize with your business’s colors, images and logos. Campaigner’s multichannel marketing automation is straightforward to set up and can help drive more sales and revenue. Implementation and integration of the software with other platforms, such as social media sites, take little time and streamline the entire marketing process to help larger businesses reach a wider audience.

We also like that Campaigner’s Reputation Defender helps maintain a positive brand reputation by improving campaign performance, deliverability, email engagement and digital marketing return on investment (ROI). This tool, which requires minimal setup, assesses email addresses for quality to prevent risky emails from being sent.

Campaigner Features

Campaigner offers valuable features and tools to improve your email marketing outreach, including the following.

Automation Tools

Because it’s crucial to engage email subscribers, automation features are essential in an email platform. Campaigner’s automation features impressed us because they can help you stay at the forefront of your customers’ journeys. Here are some highlights:

  • Workflows: Campaigner helps businesses create customized simple or complex email automation workflows via its intuitive drag-and-drop workflow builder. This interface lets businesses visualize a customer’s journey with the click of a button.
  • Recurring campaigns: Recurring email marketing campaigns help keep your business at the forefront of customers’ minds. We appreciate how easy Campaigner makes it to create and schedule targeted recurring campaigns.
  • SMS marketing: We like that Campaigner supports SMS marketing, which enables businesses to deliver messages directly to customers’ mobile devices.
  • Autoresponders: Campaigner users can take advantage of the platform’s autoresponders, which allow emails to be sent immediately in response to specific triggers. We found it simple to automate reactive messaging to ensure customers are never left awaiting a response.

Personalization Tools

Email personalization helps your prospects and customers know you value them and their unique needs. We really liked Campaigner’s personalization tools, which are aimed at delivering better engagement and are equipped with features to get your emails noticed. Here are some of the helpful personalization tools:

  • Segmentation: Campaigner’s email segmentation strategies help deliver targeted messages to subscribers. You can leverage purchase behavior, demographics and past email interactions to build customized market segments and meet their needs better.
  • Content blocks: Campaigner users can create a custom library of reusable content to keep essential information readily available for future campaigns. You can predesign elements such as headers, footers and social bars and insert them into emails with just a few clicks.
  • Geolocation: Campaigner’s geolocation feature makes it easy to target subscribers in specific areas. Users can create geotargeted segments that use data to pinpoint specific countries, cities and areas and respond appropriately based on the weather, news and activities in that location. Because content is targeted to the subscriber’s area, the communication feels more human and personal.
  • Dynamic and conditional content: Dynamic content allows you to use unique subscriber identifiers to create highly personalized emails. Conditional content features enable users to leverage contact data, such as past conversions, to adjust messaging and design elements for specific subscribers.

Personalization is a way to influence subscribers with relevant content that speaks to their specific needs, locations, demographics and more.

Testing Capabilities

Testing various iterations of your email campaign is crucial to maximize email open rates and improve your click-through rate (CTR). Marketers have traditionally used A/B testing to compare two slightly different versions of an email to determine which performs better.

We were impressed that Campaigner takes A/B testing a step further with multivariate testing, which allows users to test multiple campaign components or variations simultaneously. This helps determine which email version performs best overall while identifying the specific elements that resonate most with your audience.

Campaigner’s thorough testing capabilities allow you to run granular-level “experiments” on the following campaign aspects:

  • Conversions
  • Calls to action (CTAs)
  • Subject lines
  • Delivery times, including the times of day with the best open rates
  • Design and content
  • Sender names (“from” names)

Email Design Tools

Whether you want to create an email in HTML, plain text or a template, Campaigner’s email editors have you covered. The program offers two options: a streamlined drag-and-drop editor and a full email editor.

  • Drag-and-drop editor: Campaigner’s drag-and-drop email editor gives businesses a straightforward way to build more engaging emails without in-depth design experience or technical know-how. This user-friendly tool features premade templates and draggable elements — like text, video, clickable buttons and social media integrations — that allow you to quickly and seamlessly build customized emails. We like that users can edit images directly within the platform and that files can be stored in nested folders throughout the media library for easy access.
  • Full email editor: Campaigner’s full email editor offers advanced customization capabilities to give you complete control over your email design. With this editor, businesses can code and import their own HTML emails, add an RSS feed, or incorporate dynamic content directly within the platform.

Reporting Capabilities

Campaign reports reveal what’s working and what isn’t. We liked Campaigner’s reporting features, which allow businesses to generate the following reports:

  • Email campaign reports
  • Geolocation reports
  • Autoresponder reports
  • Workflow reports
  • User-agent reports
  • Experiment reports

Campaigner’s reporting features assess email analytics to provide real-time insight into customer behavior, demographics and click trends. The conversion-tracking tools help measure campaign success, analyze customer interactions, and gauge campaigns’ revenue generation.

Additional Features

Campaigner is a feature-rich platform with a wealth of tools that can help larger businesses improve results. Here are a few additional features that impressed us:

  • E-commerce integration: You can link your online store to take advantage of Campaigner’s e-commerce features, such as the ability to send abandoned shopping cart emails and product refill reminders.
  • Subscriber growth tools: Gaining new subscribers is among the biggest email marketing challenges businesses face. Campaigner helps you build a quality email list by making it easier to capture key customer information through landing pages and customizable sign-up forms. Customers can easily manage their communication preferences, and email content can automatically be shared across social networks for greater visibility.
  • Contact management: Campaigner’s contact management features help keep contact lists organized and current. This tool enables businesses to collect, store and segment customer information while minimizing spam complaints through suppression and exclusion lists.
  • Developer tools: Developers can leverage advanced features, like the Campaigner REST API, to enhance their email marketing efforts. They can seamlessly import and export key data via Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) or integrate apps using the SMTP relay API for transactional email sending.

Campaigner Pricing

Like many email marketing services we’ve reviewed, Campaigner’s prices are based on subscriber numbers. Here’s a look at its plans. Prices reflect monthly pricing, but you’ll pay less for annual billing.

Implementation and Onboarding

Implementing Campaigner is relatively easy for businesses; the company offers tutorials, tips and how-to content to help you get started. You can share this information with your team as part of the onboarding process to ensure everyone is on the same page and understands how to implement the software.

We like that Campaigner allows you to integrate directly with Magento, Adobe Analytics, SurveyTown and Google Analytics, as well as with over a dozen other platforms via Zapier. By syncing your email marketing platform with data from other marketing tools (like HubSpot and Salesforce) and online survey and form programs, you save on the time and resources required for manual data entry and reduce the potential for human error.

We were impressed that Campaigner provides 24/7 customer support via phone, chat and email. During our evaluation, we found that Campaigner’s customer support team answered our live chat questions in a timely and friendly manner.

If you’re interested in self-service options, Campaigner’s search tool can help you find quick answers to your questions about the product, and the company’s resource center includes video tutorials, infographics, webinars and case studies. Limitations

Although Campaigner is an excellent option for larger businesses, it does have some limitations. For instance, the free 30-day trial requires a credit card, and unlike many other email marketing solutions we evaluated, Campaigner does not offer a free version of the software.

Additionally, Campaigner can be expensive for smaller businesses with limited money. This is why we recommend it for larger companies with extensive contact lists and bigger marketing budgets.

If these issues concern you, check out our review of Constant Contact. This vendor offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card requirement and has a low-cost Lite plan that starts at $12 monthly.

Methodology

To determine the best email marketing software for various use cases, we compiled a list of popular platforms based on extensive online research. We carefully examined each service’s online reputation, narrowed our list to finalists, and spent several weeks researching each platform by reviewing its features, watching tutorials and how-to videos, testing the software (when possible) and analyzing user feedback. We also evaluated each service’s pricing structure and customer support. When assessing email marketing software for larger businesses, we specifically considered send volume capabilities, contact limits and advanced features that benefit companies with extensive email subscriber lists.

Campaigner FAQs

Campaigner complies with opt-in email marketing regulations and offers multiple options for contacts who wish to unsubscribe. Every email campaign includes a link to an unsubscribe page, which allows recipients to opt out of specific mailing lists or all future emails automatically. If a contact requests removal through other means — such as in person, over the phone or via a direct email — you must manually update their status to "unsubscribed." This can be done individually or in bulk from the Contacts tab.
Campaigner's email marketing plans are based on subscriber numbers and feature sets. For example, the base plan (Starter) starts at $59 per month for up to 5,000 contacts.
Campaigner provides the following roles and permissions:
  • Account owner: Full account access, assigned to one user only
  • Designer: Management of content for email campaigns, experiments, autoresponders, forms and campaign assets
  • Email marketer: Full account access, excluding billing information and user management settings
  • List manager: Management of contacts, custom contact fields, segments and lists
  • Reporting user: Access to view and export all report types
  • SMTP user: Access to send SMTP messages, manage user preferences and view SMTP reports
  • API user: Credentials used for authentication in the email marketing application's API

Bottom Line

We recommend Campaigner for …

  • Large businesses.
  • Businesses with hefty email contact lists.
  • Businesses that want to integrate email with social media, e-commerce operations or text message marketing.

We don’t recommend Campaigner for …

  • Small businesses with limited contact lists.
  • Businesses with small email marketing budgets.
  • Businesses that are looking for free email marketing software.
